damn. Is it just me, or is the n00b-bashing getting worse as of late?

SCCA always has an autocross during the sunny months once a month. Google your city and SCCA autocross. it's relatively cheap, and tons of fun.

Turbo: 300 whp in an E30 is a ton. It's epic. DanMartin made 475 whp, but he's running e85, can tune the shit out of anything, and spent tons of money buying the right parts to get his M20 there.

Go look at bender's build if you want a drag race E30. E30Tech has several drag racers, but the suspension design of the E30 is more about rotation and handling than launching.

Unless you're willing to do some innovative fabrication with 40k lying around, you're going to find a hard time making a 600 whp E30 that even dreams of traction.

Holset HX35+666 fab manifold adapter+MegaSquirt+custom exhaust+ebay intercooler, wastegate&BOV= turbo M20 E30 recipie. That'll cost you about $3,500 and you'll have about 300 whp with a good tune, more if you were very smart about what you got.

I agree 100% about the recipe, but make that dollar number $5k by the time you are done piecing the car together, nothing more (not yet tuned/drivable). This is assuming you shop good deals on all parts, do your own fabrication work (welding, grinding, drilling, tapping etc), all of your own mechanics work (wrenching), all of your own electrical installation work (wiring megasquirt, wiring gauges, interfacing with cluster) and all of your own engine tuning (VE map, ignition map, warmup settings, idle valve settings, rev limit settings, accel enrich, cranking pulsewidths, etc etc)

There are more parts like clutch, fuel pump, injectors, wideband, turbo oil line kit, miscellaneous welding and wiring, wideband gauge, boost gauge, and possibly custom oil cooler in case you have to relocate it.

I enjoy this way too much. You see, I'm actually searching, and researching this same build. I didn't post a thread that would only lead to those two answers, search and research. This being the first thread that came up, it's been more than entertaining.

"Holset HX35+666 fab manifold adapter+MegaSquirt+custom exhaust+ebay intercooler, wastegate&BOV= turbo M20 E30 recipie. That'll cost you about $3,500 and you'll have about 300 whp with a good tune, more if you were very smart about what you got."

That helped a bit. But believe it or not, I'm still doing more research. Call me silly. Call me crazy. I don't like to measure once and cut twice. Maybe my parents instilled this wonder of critical thinking into my processor. Maybe I just don't want to look like an asshole, unless of course it's necessary. Either way, I"m off to do more research.

          Cheers,

          AJ

and I would start with an m30 swap + TCD stg2 kit. That would make for a stupid fast e30, prolly 300whp (guess)

Crazy thing is, just look at people's proven setups, and, for FI, the quoted above about sums it up.

Well, I figured that went without saying.

The above are reason why I pussed out on doing a turbo build.

AJ, great idea. I got my ass busted on E30Tech a few years back, looking at turbo stuff, then I researched it, , bought parts, researched some more, and aborted while I still have some money for school.

Some of us won't admit it, but we may have been Honda guys.

Then why didn't you tell us what you had in mind and ask if everything checks out, or if we would recomend some changes. Instead of making us make you a list.
