dual mass to single mass flywheel conversion

my 87 325 has a dual mass flywheel. what exactly is needed to swap to the single mass? is there much effort involved in this?

you need the flywheel, starter, clutch and pressure plate, 323i throw out bearing, and the blots from the other flywheel. id reccomend getting a clutch kit and a new 323i throw out bearing along with a new slave cylinder and new flywheel bolts.
as far as effort its pretty labor intensive. you have to drop the transmission, which also includes exhaust removal, disconnecting the driveshaft, disconnecting the center support bearing. and dont forget to pull out the sensors on the front of the bell housing either.

All you need is the flywheel and clutch/pp. TOB and starter are the same.

it's not THAT labor intensive, really... no more than a clutch job. Duh, you have to drop the exhaust/driveshaft/tranny.

Yeah, it's no problem. I have a single mass in my eta that originally had a dual mass. I used the earlier eta single mass flywheel with a used 'i' pressure plate and clutch. My throw out bearing is new, and is an 'i' component. Basically, you will need the clutch and pressure plate that are specific to the single mass flywheel.

The job takes an hour if you are flat-rating it or 20 days if you are working every 5 days under a car on jackstands in 15*F weather for 20 minutes.

bingo, its just a glorified clutch replacement

i read somewhere that by switching to the simgle mass that it is a bit shorter, about a 1/4 in. and while it might still drive the clutch might not be fully disengaged when the clutch is depressed
