    ecu intercange?

I've got an all stock 325e. I'd like to swap the head and intake to one from an 325is, plus hotter cam. My ecu is rev limited to 4750 because of the 4 bearing cam and soft valve springs. With the new head (7 bearing cam, performace valve springs) I'll need to rev alot higher to make power. What all would need to be done with the ecu? Is the 325is ecu harness the same as the 325e? If not can I repin it?

What year 325e? Early ETA cars have the timing reference sensors mounted in the bell housing but all 325i/is cars and SuperETA's have the timing reference sensor mount on the front of the engine. If yours is the variant with the bell housing mounted timing reference sensors that would have to change to be able to use the DME & harness from a 325i/is.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

early '86. (dme & harness?) I was hoping not to replace the harness. I've done alot of harness work at my shop, and I'm bloody sick of it.

That car is an early production and has the bell housing mounted timing reference sensors, cold start valve, discrete ICM, and thermo time switch. Really a rather different beast from a 325i/is.

Your other option would be to chip your ECU. I believe Mark D'Silva has a few products that can raise you RPM limit, as well as adjust your fuel maps for better performance.

I've got a MarkD chip in my 87 ETA. It made the car a lot more fun.
