    323i - which engine???

    Bimmer noob...

I got this 1985 323i I have a while ago, and apparently it was imported straight from Germany, if anybody remembers reading the thread about it.

Is there anything on the engine or in the car that would identify it as a m20b23 or m20b25? I just want to know what I'm working with. Doing a VIN decode only tells me it's an m20.

From research it looks like they introduced the m20b25 in 1985, which is the year of this car, but I'm just not sure.

    Thanks!

323i would have a m20b23. you could always check the head casting number. the last three for a m20b23 head would be 731. the last three on m20b25 bead would be 885

I thought it would be the 2.3 but because it's a 1985 I wasn't sure if it might have the 2.5 upgraded to it or something crazy. You never know...
