    cam sprocket removal

does anyone have a way to remove the cam sprocket with the t-belt already off? I am mid-replacing my timing belt and need to replace the cam seal and o-ring, but the cam wont stay still for me to remove it. And ideas?

Deep 10mm socket through the cam cog (sprocket) on a breaker bar or ratchet on the retainer bolt to lock the cog.

An air ratchet works great if you have access

Put the old T-Belt back on, tighten the tensioner and have at it. It doesn't take long to put the belt back on.

What ever you do end up doing don't spin the camshaft.

I used a flathead screwdriver to wedge between the cam gear and head, thats what 101 performance book for 3-series had written

That's a bit overkill. An air ratchet would work if the head is off, but I wouldn't risk using it if the head is still bolted down as it may spin the cam.

Or just place it between 2 of the bolts and hold it there. Just crack all the bolts free first before removing them all the way so you always have 2 to use.
