    Hartge H3 Engine

    Hi,
I traded a guy a Hartge engine for some work I did on his 2004 Mini Cooper S. Turns out it's a pretty nice piece. 2.3 liter? with a number and B H 3 stamped on the head. Casting date of 1984. Block has a number cast into it and 23 6E A.
I've done some research and believe it to be out of a 1984 E30 Hartge H23.

    Could someone confirm?

    Thanks,
    Mark

that looks like an e21 style m20 intake manifold so it may be from an e21 323i H3, though the very early e30 323i H23 may have used it also. the period seems about correct.

Cleaned the head a bit today and found some more interesting bits. Below and to the right of where the 2045 BH3 is stamped, there is a cloverleaf and hand written A5 / 13. The intake runners looks very smooth. The valves measure 40mm and 34mm. I will reach out to Hartge in Germany to see what
      stage head I've got here.

Looks legit based on similar markings on my H5S.

Good luck reaching Hartge, pretty sure they folded a few years ago.

Got the motor put together. Still haven't been able to verify how hot the head is. If anybody has some info on the Hartge nomenclature that would be helpful. Thank you.
