    Questions about Flywheels

Ok I have a B35 auto out of a 92' 535i. I am concidering doing this swap but have a few questions. I also have a Gertrag 260 out of a 91' 318is to use as the trans for the swap.

From what I have read it seems that this tranny will bolt up to the M30 is this correct?

As far as flywheels go, can I use any of the following to get it connected up?

    E34 Dual Mass
    E28 Dual Mass
E30 318i M10 single mass (is this perfered as far as costs go?)
    JB Lightweight

I assume that I would use the clutch kit assosiated with each flywheel as well as the starter that matched, is this correct?

Any help would be appriciated, just trying to get bearings as which way I need to go.

    Thanks
    KS

E28 is a single mass, there are 2 versions. Early 533 and M5 is lighter, around 15 pounds, and the later 535 is around 22 pounds, IIRC.

I wouldn't even consider the E34 dual mass, too heavy for a car with sport driving in mind.

The tranny is from an M42 car, I really don't know if that will bolt to a M30 or not. I know M20 versions do not. If you can measure the bellhousing, you need a trans that is 4 3/4" between the bolts on the upper flat surface (behind the engines head).

    Need engine mounts? ;)

Ok, I will measure the distance between the bolt holes on the 260 tonight and see what the measurements are.

I will start the hunt for a 533 or M5 flywheel.

      Thanks for the Help Q!

        318is comes with a G240, not a 260.

you'd need a transmission out of an M10, S14 or M30 car. M42s have the same bolt patterns as M20s and M50s

Ok Q thanks for the link, I pecured that 533 flywheel.

And I see you asked about mounts, do you havenor make some?

Nando, alas you are correct and I can't read. It is a 240. crap!!!! Now I need a tranny.

But I had bought this as a spare for mine so no biggie. I will now have a complete M42 motor tranny and drive shaft for sale. These were spares. Got the whole car for $150.

Not to be too self-serving....ah screwit, I really would like to sell these! :) Yes, I have a set of mounts for a B35 posted here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=148719

I would be interested, but I will not have funds for a while. Need any 318is parts? I also have a couple of Sony car stereos I need to unload then I could buy them from you.

Sorry, don't need any 318 parts. Just let me know, not too much interest in them so far. I'm keeping the price, and I'll just wait until someone wants them.
