putting an m60 in my e30

Hey everyone, im trying to gather parts for my 89 325i convertible to convert it to a v8. I already have the motor from my 94 740i and actually still have the car too. what am i going to need to pull this swap off, what else should I grab from the 740i before i get rid of it? I am not it a rush to pull this off but would like to start getting everything i need. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Where are you in Princeton? I'm in Westminster about a 1/3 of a mile from the Princeton line. It would be cool to check out the progress of the build in person...
    Sorry for the unhelpful post.

      You'll need some of these:

And a "can-do" attitude, cause no one here has a shopping list of what you'll need.

not to bring this back from the dead or anything. but how much do you guys think an m60 is worth if i found one? there is one for sale locally and was wondering what a good/ bad deal was...

                  from his post...

he said bmw replaced the long block 28k miles ago...

if bmw replaced the long block it was probably because the m60 recall due to the engines losing compression from the contents of the gasoline reacting with the block. so the engine is most likely an m62. if its up for $2k or less, Id be all over that.

m62 have cylinder walls made of a different metal, larger displacement, slightly higher power output. basically an m60, but better

Not likely.. alusil m60's are what replaced the Nikasil m60's that failed. Swapping from an m60 to m62 is do-able, but it requires a lot of m60 parts to be transferred over to the m62 and is not something that BMW is likely to do under warranty. I'd be wary of the motor being replaced 28k miles ago also, I think that recall expired in like 2001

u sure? my dad had a 1995 540i and it started losing compression at like 80k miles, so he took it in and they replaced it with (what I thought was) an m62 in 2000. no way to check now, the car is sold and long gone

the guy goes on to say

"This engine has the updated alusil cylinder liners due to the original nikisal issue; BMW replaced the whole long block 28,000 miles ago. This engine is nice, even the magnesium valve covers are perfect. E-mail me with any questions or offers. "
