    Alpina 333i Intake

Someone fabbed their own, I remember seeing it somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

Anyone know any details about this kind of thing? I seem to remember Japandrew saying he was going to make one.

I was thinking about picking up a spare manifold and making one. IIRC the one I saw just had a hole bored in the opposite side with studs placed in it somehow, and the other hole covered by a plate. I'm assuming that it wouldn't effect anything performance-wise if this was done?

I have done more hours researching this manifold than I'd like to admit, for a good reason too.

Did you end up getting one made? Or making one yourself?

In the process. What the hell, i'll share.

I'll be making three total. One for myself, and two for resale. I've got three standard 3.5 intake manifolds. All have been Cold-tanked, the logo on top and castings on the side have been machined flat. I've had the correct dimension "ALPINA" castings made and once I've got the side of the intake machined completely flat so the throttle body can sit properly, I'll take it to the welder/machinist for the final implement of the ALPINA casting. Only two pics for now. I'll post a few more as updates come. Obviously painting is the last step. I've been in contact with an authentic 333i owner through email and he's been very generous at providing dimensions. This replica will be a dead-nuts copy.

This specific intake manifold was used on only one other car, the Alpina B6 2.8 in the e30 model. There was hardly any made of this specific model, and the Alpina B6 3.5s also used the intake manifold with the throttle body on the other side, however the top of it doesn't say just "ALPINA" it says "ALPINA B6 3.5s" or something along those lines.

It's a common mod to relocate the throttle body to the other side, but nobody has made a replica with the "ALPINA" casting on the top or the throttle cable coming through the side or the idle-air gold tube running through. Mine will have it all.

I'm plannign on making one just because it makes a Turbo/MS install that much cleaner. Drill a few holes in Al, tap 'em...seems straightforward.

I will doing something similar, not to copy Alpina or anything, but simply to relocate the TB/Intake to the other side away from exhaust. This has been done many times, mostly for FI guys....

Do you have any pictures of ones that have been done? I swear i've seen them but I can't find them now.

I have a whole folder of this kind of shit. Here's an authentic B6 2.8, but for some reason, the retard removed his original manifold, and took a standard one to remake. You can see it still has the Roundel on the top of the manifold. Oh, and this is a turbo m30 too. Not quite the standard B6 2.8 M30

Here are a few others too:

Interesting that the throttle cable runs through the manifold. IIRC the b34 manifolds are solid, they don't have the space that the cable runs through in those pictures. I'm assuming the b35 mani has the spacing.

Neither has the spacing, it was drilled through to allow the room. There's space enough to drill through without interrupting the air going through the pipes. The part that's drilled is just pure metal that "fills the gap" to make it looks like all one piece.

That Alpina logo doesn't look anything like the original deal. Who are you trying to fool anyways. Wonder what Mr. Bovensiepen has to say about all the alpina crap you are trying to ilegally copying. Unload the big bucks and buy the real deal.

First of all, it's not illegal if I come out and tell everybody on a public fucking forum that it's a replica and will do just the same when I sell the other two. Second of all, the logo looks identical to the real thing because I took a high resolution picture of the real manifold, did numerous sketchings and clean-ups to create a .tiff file, and sent it to the machinist. Mr. Bovenseipen would probably say the exact same thing about the dozens of ebay replica kits modeled after Alpina. It's business- you're going to have competition and reproductionists. Talk to me once you get up off of that crack rock.

I am not sure how true this is - "First of all, it's not illegal if I come out and tell everybody on a public fucking forum that it's a replica and will do just the same when I sell the other two"

I am sure if you make a replica for yourself it's fine, but if you start making them to sell it's another....?
