    M30 Stroker (not m90) - crank options/rods options?

I read the stroker thread where most everybody suggested using euro m90 block, but I want to stay with what's available.

If using e32/e34 block, what crank/rods can be used? I figured pistons will have to be custom, that's ok. Can S38 crank still be used or not? Are there any other options?

Yeah you can use an m5 crank.. The 3.8L crank is the one you want, its a bit pricey though. There is a chart somewhere of all the different cranks, I'll see if I can find it

Be careful Jean... The power slope is a slippery one.

the only stroker without using the m90 is the s38b38-90mm crank and or the lost/scarce dinan or scat 92mm cranks...
once again Paul Burke is the man to talk to...
used, the cranks will run you $1k....
the rods are even more, you can get a custom set made cheaper than new OE...
a lot of machine work needed, the journals are larger on the crank and thus the bearings are larger, you need a harmonic balance set up for it, new another $1k, but I happen to know someone who has a good, spare, used one ;)....
you are looking at more the 300 squared though, that ft/lbs and hp...
a real bullet proof motor that will red line about 6k but the tq hits at 2800 instead of 4250 like the s38's....basically, more sooner than later, less up top.... more v8 like if you will....
but really, how many times are you going to see top end compared to how many really quick trips to 100???
        I will take the latter....
you will want the 290 cam.... atleast...

I dont have the numbers in front of me but I think the b33 crank is a good option other then the s38 crank.

I have a m90 block and I dont see anything special about it that you couldnt machine a US block to the same specs
          Anything can be done

              Chart would be nice!

BimmerScreamer - got more info on the b33 crank?

I am in the early research stage, but I would like to build another b35 that isn't stock on the side for later use, be it a stroker, higher compression motor or turbo. Right now I have all the top end parts, will pick up a shortblock soon enough.

Jean the only advantage of using the M90 block is that it has a larger bore than the B35 and it has a 84mm stroke compared the 86mm B35 crank.

If you want a rev monster than go with a long rod short crank combo, if you want a torque monster than go with a short rod long stroke.

If you are thinking of going turbo then don't even bother with an engine build, just an MLS and ARP's will be able to handle 20+psi and 600hp.

haha, I love that you have actually proven this statement, as ridiculous as is sounds.

So with the bigger bore of the m90 + the longer stroke of the m30.
What displacement does that come out too?

Meh, nevermind I added it up and it's way too expensive and it might not even hit 300hp. I'll build another block for boost instead :)

It is expensive, i'm $3k deep in just the bottom end already. Had I waited to see how much power the stock engine can take I would have never built an engine.
At least when it's done it will be able to hold 30+ psi.

I am not going for 600+ hp like you though :) 300-400hp in a 2500lb car will do just fine for a loooong time . Just a stock fresh build with new rings/bearings + gasket and studs. Well, plus the intake manifold tb relocation.

You have the fresh build already, take the head off put the studs and the MLS in and call it a good day.

So I guess you are ready for the darkside, gotta get the MS in it first so I can teach ya how to use the thing.
