Then m20 turbo is what you want.
You already got the engine, spend the thousands from what
the s50 swap into a killer 400hp capable setup.

Spend about 3k and smoke on some e55s, M5s, corvettes, ect.

Actually I don't have the engine. I would need a e block so I can run low compression pistons right?

M20's are still as cheap and easy to install as it will get, because it is meant for this chassis. I've had an S52 and now I'm working on an S54. If I could go back, I probably would have been happy from the start with an M20 turbo. Would have probably $3-4k in the engine compared to the near $15k I've spent between both of the other engines so far and I still would have made more power. If you want to build up a low compression motor, go for it. The M20i motor is just fine with boost though. You can make plenty of power from the stock engine.

I'm very close to installing my megasquirt setup but even then I'll be lucky to break 225whp.

A friend of mine has a similar motor, but with stock bore and a 3.8 crank (we think) that makes 229whp with autotronic full standalone ($1.5k-2k ecu).
Not to offend but something seems wrong with your numbers too,
            You know Duke,
he had a euro m30 mit Hartge Head and cam and some mild porting with headers and he was pushing about the same numbers as your friend with the stroked motor...
I saw Duke's Dyno Sheet in person, this is before the Turbo Fiasco...

            Who built your motor?

something just doesn't seem right with your numbers that is all I am saying...

I think you are referring to the e bottom i top combo, if you take a e short block and slap on a 885(i) head you get something like 8.8:1 compression which is favorable to boost and can be done cheap.

What would be a good sized turbo for the m20?

nice. i love seeing an old e30 blow past a new viper.

another reason for e30+turbo if you want cheap fun.

619, contact blueapplesoda. he makes bolt on m20 turbo kits for the e30. its not much cheaper than a swap mind you, but it is a proven and reliable way to make power.

I thought Duke's motor put down 212? I'm not offended at all, if mine makes more power I certainly won't be mad but I've just never seen any other m30's that make more than 220's to the wheels. Supposedly there's a guy on mye28 (Paul Cain?) that put down 250 with a motor somewhat similar to mine, but I really doubt I'm going to gain more than 20hp with tuning. That said, my car is running a random chip right now, probably tuned for a stock cam and looking at my dyno sheet, it's definitely falling on its face right about where it should start to make power. So we'll see when the megasquirt goes in I suppose

Oh and a guy named Chris Thurman built this motor, he worked at Sunbelt, not sure if he still does.

^I think you will gain heeps with a real engine management vs a
chip with all your mods. Maybe not in peak #.

Not sure if you've seen this, but it was posted on e30tech it's a stock
325i w/ 19# injectors (stupid) Notice the afr vs being dyno tuned.
Dotted lines are the stock ECU. Solid lines are the DIYPNP without the AFM. Peak gains were about 13ft lbs and about 15whp. Under the curve though? As much as 23ftlbs and 23whp was gained.
