    Dif gear ratio's

Why is it necessary to run something besides 3.73 and 4.10 again? I know you shouldn't use those gears but I forget why

Mine ran fine with a 4.10 it just is very very short gears. Lots of shifting and 1st and second are pretty worthless. 2.93 is too long w/o turbo

It's not necessary, it's just with 3.7x, 3.9x, 4.1x the first gear is pretty much useless and you'll be in 3500-4000rpm in 5th doing 70mph....

        See example here - http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=166604

For the M30, it has less to do with the gear ratios in the transmissions (E36 transmissions are direct-drive 5th gear whereas E30 and E28 transmissions have an overdrive 5th gear) and more to do with the rev range and torque band of the motor. You could run a 3.73 or a 4.10, but you'd probably be quicker with a numerically lower diff since the lower gears wouldn't be useless, and you'd be revving less on the highway; it's dumb to have a big M30 under the hood and still be at 3500rpm at 80mph.

I liked 3.25 for an E30 M30, seemed just right to me.
              You can hit 35ish in 1st, 65 in 2nd, and 70 in 5th is around 2600rpms.

I´ll be hooking up a 3.73 to a Getrag 260/6, hopefully 1st and 2nd will be somewhat useable.

BTW, Jean, I laughed my pants off with Die Antwoord. So...tacky, so...german ghetto? so...budget minded, and at the same time, nothing short of BET productions quality. Don´t nobody get offended by my comment (entertainment purpose only). Think outside the box.
