haven't measured for it yet. With the shit shit shitty weather we've had here for the last 3 or 4 weeks (20 degrees below normal) I haven't even thought about A/C. I may get around to it this weekend.

ok - not to throw a monkey wrench in this - but -

I have the funk mounts (took firewall sound deadening stuff off, but no pounding of the firewall needed - tight fit) - a e28 535i radiator, m30 A/C bracket, and the air conditioning compressor from my 87 325is. Everthing fits and it works. I have maybe an 1/8 in clearence from the radiator to the air conditioning compressor. I shaved off a bit of the M30 bracket to fit the compressor on, but feel I only had to because I never unhooked my A/C lines and it is one tight fit. A lot of grunting to get it all lined up.

The A/C belt I used was the E34 535i one (13x855) - It won't go on real easy. Had to have the air compressor with no slack in the adjustment, got the belt part way on and hand cranked the motor over to pop the belt all the way on.

Honestly - looking at the M20 compressor and the M30 compressor and they looked the same. I still have a M30 compressor and was going to use it as a spare if needed.

      Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the info, this is awesome.

If the 13x855 belt is a tight fit, I'll just go buy a 13x860 and call it a day!

Do you have a B34 or B35? Is the compressor the closest thing to the radiator?

Just wondering why there seems to be so much variance car to car, could just be production tolerances but I wonder how consistent Funks mounts were, or if the 34/35 mounts position the engine slightly differently.

Being in Az, I have a slight interest in this subject...

I was running Funk mounts on a b35 with a very late model Seiko compressor. No fit. I swapped to the Goood&tight mounts and I have about 3/4" clearance now.

Are you still just planning to run one big fan in front of the condenser for both the a/c and the radiator?

Right now I just have the stock aux fan. I may upgrade to a big ass Spal if need be.

B34 or B35? What (rubber) engine mounts and what's the pn on the compressor?

                  Thanks.

Just wanted to throw in that the mounts are certified for 180mph.

Btw how is your oil pan to rack clearance did you use urethane engine bushings or rubber?

Joe's mounts were made to position the motor as forward as possible IIRC to fit the b34 head/coolant pipe.

My clearance is great, no issues at all. I'm using stock m20 rubber mounts.

Ah yes, that makes sense. It's nice it you're not running a/c, zero modification necessary. I didn't even have to remove the insulation from the firewall or trans tunnel.

I have a m30B35 - from a 90 E34. I'm using the rubber M20 motor mount bushings with the Funk mounts. I can not read the tag on air conditioning compressor (it's green if that helps) but I'm 90% sure it's the stock 87 325is one. I never unhooked my A/c lines from the compressor. I just took the compressor off the M20, bungee'd it to the side of the engine bay, put in M30, and wrestled it back into place.

The compressor is the closest thing to the radiator - well maybe the cover for the distributer is about the same. I'm using the pusher fan in the car. I got a lower fan temp switch (lowest bav auto had for the readiator) and am running the high speed fan setting. The low speed setting does not work and I have not replaced the fan yet.

I'll see if I can upload pics of the clearence.

Thanks for the pics! Maybe I'll have to find an m20 compressor now..

IIRC Joe made two sets of mounts, one for b35 and one for b34. I am using his b35 mounts with b35 and b34 would not clear the firewall AS IS. The engine is as far back is it can be w/o having to bang the firewall.

The problem is, it would appear that that compressor is not R-134a friendly, see http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...ects-97-AC.htm .
