Interesting - well there is 134a in my system and I probably have one that is not compatible. At this point we'll just see what happens.

The '92 I pulled mine from was running R134. It worked perfect!

Yes - please do. If we have an R134a compressor that works with Funk mounts, life will be significantly easier.

            Ok on compressor 6452 8 350 060

            seiko ss-148PB5. 220cm3

now it does say it was for R12. But it was running R134 in the car when I bought it.

And sure enough, that one is listed as an acceptable part for R-134a by BMW. So that DOES fit with Funk mounts. Interesting. Off a 92, you said: E34 or E32?

Same one I have, this is from an e32 735i cars.

So, are you using this with what mounts again?

                  This is of a 1992 E34 535i.

I would be using this with the good&tight mounts. But what I am going to try to do is to use my M42 compressor and keep my system sealed because it still has R12 in it and that crap ain't cheap. So no breaky breaky

but that also means I might have this compressor as an extra.

I will be a while before I am at that point, as my head is out being rebuilt at the moment.

I pulled the same one from a 91/92 735i, they used the same one. Funny thing is, BMW dealership won't find that part number in the their computers at all. They spent 30 minutes as I wanted to confirm if it's r134a compatible or not...

You can flush the R12 out and convert to 134 easily, change the drier of course.
I did this with my 318 and it worked for years.

My 318 M42 was running R134 when purchased, however it sucked!!!! Evacuated it and changed dryer and put it back to R12 and it was a huge difference. R134 was fine when moving but if you sat in traffic it was abou 10 deg warmer at the vents compared to the same system with R12.

                        This is just my experience.

lashtx, have you tried fitting your m42 a/c compressor or compared the mounting points with the m30b35 a/c compressor?

If you mock up a compressor and bracket ahead of time you'll see that the compressor hits the bracket and doesn't allow the top mounting hole to line up when the bottom is already bolted in (or vice versa)

                            I'm running a Seiko compressor, BMW p/n 64521386464, Seiko p/n SS-148PL3
Can you double check your pn or post a couple pictures of the compressor you are currently using with the modified bracket?

64521386464 does not come up on realoem.com

There's an additional problem which may be non-negligible: M30 pulley is in the 150mm range. M20 pulley is 116mm. ICBS that that means a 30% increase in compressor speed. Even if you are not in the habit of driving above 4000RPM, this could at least lead to increased wear. I can't find the data for the M42 pulley, but I'd bet it's even smaller. Am I overthinking this?

How do you know what coolant is in the system on a used car besides the fittings on the pipes?
