Wow, your rack clearance looks super tight. Is the hood hitting? My hood hits with the variable TPS installed, since its bigger than the stock TPS on my m30.. Got a nice outwards dent now. You think the throttle bodies are going to cause any issues clearance wise?

lol i think everything on the upper side of the motor is causing me clearance issues. But I can live with a slightly dented hood to have an s38 in it :). Its not a show car, so I was thinking of making a "DSM" like hood bump for clearance for the front of the motor. I don't think the ITB's will hit, maybe the filters once I put them on the throttle body trumpets.

Oh cool you are running individual filters also? I should have my throttle body adapters in a couple weeks now and was looking into my options for velocity stacks/filters.. Let me know what you come up with, I know ITG makes some stuff but I'm not crazy about the look of it. As far as the hood goes, I've got the JDM rear hood vent mod goin on right now but your clearance problem looks to be further forward. Like you said though, not really a huge deal.

Im going to run the factory velocity stacks for now with K&N cone filters on each one, i'd like to try my S54 velocity stacks next summer after I make up some adapter brackets this winter.

Don't stop now! I could sleep more easily at night knowing E30s can receive S38s without subframe spacers (yuck) or hood modifications.

K guys running into an issue, I need a front driveshaft half that bolts up to an e34 m5 guibo - flexdisc and to the rear e30 driveshaft half. I have heard of using an e28 front shaft and shortening it , anyone have any info on this. Also the length needs to be 26-27 inches from front of flange to end of splines.

Ok guys decided to make some updates so you don't have to keep going to e30tech.

Here's a quick summary of whats going on.

                      Using e34 m5 brake booster.

                      E28 535 radiator

                      Making room

                      Front subframe out

Using an e34 m5 clutch master cylinder as well, it bolts right up with the e34 m5 brake booster.

                        E34 unit has larger tubing

Overlaying the e30 and e34 cylinder bolt holes

                        S38 swap motor mounts

                        Indeed

                        Motor In

                        E34 thermostat housing no worky

Even with the motor in position 3 the thermostat still would hit the radiator.

                        Its tight

Stock e34 m5 intake manifold wont work

                        WOuld hit heater core pipes

                        Stock e34 m5 transmission brace

                        Modified for e30 swap

Using an e34 540 brake remote res.

That bracket is also being used to hold my fuel filter

Because the stock intake manifold dosn't fit

Using an e28 m5 thermostat housing and setup so i can use the stock e28 535 radiator

                          stock e34 m5 wiring harness

                          Needs to to thru here

Couple pics of mocked up bumper setup, not finished yet and nothing bolted down

looks good dude! You are a lot further along than mine. I will start finishing mine over christmas break.

I am waiting to see how your hood fits, I am in the same boat. Refuse to put a spacer in.
I have similar poly mounts as you. I was thinking of cutting them half size. Do you have much clearance between your pan and the front subframe?
What did you end up using for a driveaxle? Also, you going standalone?

I actually put in a 1/4 spacer in between the subframe and frame rails :( You'll understand why shortly.

I have similar poly mounts as you. I was thinking of cutting them half size. Do you have much clearance between your pan and the front subframe?

I actually am using stock, oem m20 motor mounts. I am using them because once they settle, soften, break in or whatever they will put the engine in the proper resting position and give much better clearence from the firewall. Also because I dont have my subframe re-enforced and I don't wanna bend the mount tabs. Right now they are stiff still and my clearence to my steering rack is super tight, I think an e36 rack swap will be needed since the e36 racks have more clearence from the oil pan then the stock e30 racks do. Once the motor mounts settle I will be removing the 1/4 spacers.

What did you end up using for a driveaxle?

Gotta be custom. The distance needed with the motor in pos 3 is an odd one and none of the factory driveshafts can be used. You will have to modify one , i'm getting a custom one built soon with the front flange of my e34 m5 ds and the rear spline from my e30 ds. It will still be a two piece ds, just a custome front half of the ds.

                                Also, you going standalone?

When the setup was in my M5 i had been running Megasquirt MS2 for 2.5 years already. Had it running well enough to take to W. Virgina and back and to Ohio multiple times. Will be running the same setup in my new car.
