I understand Ireland Engineering made some custom shorty headers for the E30/M30 swap. They don't advertise them but may have some sets left.

M30 Headers FYI

Yeah they are tubular 2" at the collector end with a 3 hole flange. I talked to Paul Burke (often on My E28) who is an M30 guru and he said they (or any tubular header) are much better than the factory cast manifold especially when combined with head work/cam etc and a 2!/2" exhaust. I'm not sure on the gauge steel and so on but they seem like a good option. I'd check with IE for more details on them.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. -Mark Twain

I contacted someone named alpinass on mye28 a while ago about the headers he makes, and he replied:
I have had this question posed to me several times...I believe with a little tweeking they would fit. I would purchase the 1 1/2" (painted). I will ask a performance shop that has stuffed an S14 and M30 into E30.Originally posted by LJ851I programmed my oven to turn off when my pizza was done, should i start a build thread?

any shorty headers are going to be pretty worthless, although they may be better than the stock manifolds, only because manifolds in general are not great for performance.
a motor like the M30 probably wants headers that are at least 26-30" long, the primaries on most shorty headers are 12" or so...

Sure shortys are not ideal for this swap but I talked about it with Paul Burke and for those of you who don't know who he is I suggest you do. I told him I was going to port the stock manifolds and he said don't waste your time and suggested any headers. Until someone makes a good affordable longer length header for this swap I'll go with IE's and ceramic coat them Plus they are about 7lbs. lighter than stock.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. -Mark Twain

Seriously, it would be great if someone could come up with a copy of the Alpina header (oops, sorry, a header inspired by the Alpina piece}. The E28/E34 headers don't fit by all accounts, and short or not headers are better than the stock manifolds. There's a discussion at mye28 and in that is a link to another set of Alpinas that sold for 655 euros.
I would be in for a decently priced (realistically, under 700 dollars) set of bolt on headers. I too, know of the mystical Mr. Burke...1973 Bavaria
