Hey I'm new to the BMW scene. I'm still trying to figure out all the names of stuff. I have a 87 325e with a 2.7 and 5 speed. My motor is toast and I found a 3.5 in a 92 I think it was a 525. I've been doing a lot of reading about the swap. I was wondering if my trans would bolt up to the bigger motor? Thanks for the help in advance. I will keep doing some digging.

G260 is the same box inside on m20 and M30
but the M30 box is coded 260/6 and the M20 is G260/5 and the bellhousing is the explanasion
the G265 is also an option .. but lower gearing .. the G265/5 is the oem Euro M3 gearbox ,, and is a dogleg gearbox
the G260/6 is a great gearbox ,, strong and reliableSveinbjörn Hrafnsson

Not true.
For the m30: the 260/5 was used from late 82 until late 84.
The 260/5 was removed from production and the 265/5 was brought back for use in the 85 model vehicles while the 260/5 was redesigned.
The 260/6 was the revised version ans as previously mentioned; can be identified by the cooling fins on the bottom of the case.
The early 260/5 used the smaller clutch cover due to the case profile but the last of them would accept the M5 style clutch that could also be used in the 265 and 260/6.
All of these trans mentioned were 5 spd overdrive trans and the 265/5 was the C/R dogleg sport unit.
