ahh, that kinda sucks.. have u thought of using like a b20 mixture? might save u a few bucks in the long run and there are additives nowadays like anti-gel that'll work to i think 30 below even, its there somewhere on the website

oh speaking of m21, how do the heads flow? i mean, how much power will you be able to pull out of an m21? this is my daily sorta (family bought a e39 :)) so im not hoping crazy high like 400 (although that'd be really sweet!) just around 200 aboutish, thats reasonable i hope

200hp is going to be hard to find.

Your best bet is going to be a larger turbo, then you need to put a larger cam disc in the injection pump. Other than that, porting will net you very little. On a diesel its all about how much air and fuel you can stuff into it.

Stock boost is set at 13psi. If you bring it up to 15psi you will be fine, anything higher and you will have to do fuel system mods.

go onto mye28.com and look in the turbo diesel section. There is a guy there who is building a power m21.

ok awesome. yea i planned on putting in a bigger turbo anyway eventually.

my brain is melting from all the information im getting. when i began thinking of this diesel project, i was really worried that i wouldnt get enough info out of it since diesel isnt used much here in America than Europe but so far its turning out pretty good (car wise, not trucks of course)

and how much will the engine handle in regards to boost before you have to start upgrading to stronger internals. i heard the crank is favorable for many builders but that the rods are weak

I have heard up to 30psi. But those are just rumors. 21psi seems to be a safe limit. But you will have to have larger injectors (you can just drill them out to be bigger) and the larger injection pump cam disc.

            ok, sounds good.

tell me more about the injection pump cam disc. (sorry if im seeming like such a newb, i can search for it later if i need to but ur being really helpful lol) is the injection pump the same thing as a fuel pump at the tank?

The injection pump sits on the side of the engine. Its run off the timing belt. Basically what it will do is pump fuel into each fuel injector. The injection pump also is the throttle.... diesels have no throttl body like gas engines do (no blow off valve either).

There is a cam in there that will push the plunger down on each pass to push the fuel into each of the 6 fuel lines. When you install the bigger cam plate into it there will be a larger amount of fuel pushed on each cycle.

Larger cam plates can be gotten from cummins turbo diesel injection pumps.

You can see the injection pump under the intake manifold. You can run these cars with no electric fuel pump too.

When you find one. I would recommend you get it all running outside of the car before you install it. make sure everything works, do your timing belt and water pump at that time too.

Then buy spare parts to do all your mods to.

If you need help making the wire harness I can make it for you also.

Hey, how much should I expect to pay for an m21?

and what cars can I find one in besides a 324td and 524td?

You will only find a 524td here in the US.

The engine came in the Vixen 21 motorhome but you wont find one of those.... I have one of them though, thats what got me into the m21 engine. 586 of these made, a little over half has the m21 in them.

They also came in some 1980's lincolns, but again, they are hard to find and the parts for them are not the same as the 524td parts.

You can get the engine in some 4x4 truck also, but they only made 4 of them world wide.

U never said though how much I should expect to pay for one

Is there anything else I should know before I go this route?

Oh tuning wise, how/what to do? I'm not very familiar with diesels
