    M30 hard miss

Ricksloan and I are trying to get his m30 car running again and not having any luck. We have changed the afm, ecu, coil wire, checked compression on cylinder one, checked the first three injectors, and the car still has a consistent hard miss and an occasional extreme backfire. Any helpful ideas?

All the time, car will idle but has a hard miss constantly and if you gently give it throttle you can rev it but it is missing the entire time. If you hit the throttle hard it dies for a second and falls on its fface...

the "hit gas" and it wants to die makes me want to check the TPS....

the otherwise miss at all times? check the basics such as ignition/coil/wires and maybe even fuel pressure ?

            Hello.
To me that sounds allot like it's going to be the main relay or a lose connection on the injector harness.

            Good luck!

the only time my car back fired was when i messed with mass air flow. check all spark plugs after running it. see if all are burning or rich with fuel.

Check all spark plugs/ leads and check the rotor and cap for wear.

                    E30 Hard miss

My car (325i-89) has also an engine hard miss failure. The problem started after a head on collision at ~20MPH. The hard miss and backfire symptoms described in this thread (#1) are similar to my car's failure mode. So, I would like to ask, was there any event or condition that could have initially caused the problem on Ricksloan's engine?

After the collision, I had the car's body repaired and the distributor cap, rotor, water pump, and radiator replaced. So far, I have not been able to identify the cause of the engine miss/backfire.

you should check that your exhaust isn't bent and replace the spark plugs, im replacing mine hopefully today, looks like that might have been the issue

Have you checked the Blue temp switch on the engine??
Maybe faulty causing it to run very rich.

Check the fuel pressure regulator, the diaphragm broke in mine and I had similar issues. Have you checked the condition of the plugs?

I have ordered new plugs for him, yet have forgotten them at work for the past week. We shall see what they do.
