Im going to check out a s38b36 tomorrow and the guy selling wants 1k extra for the 280 tranny. Are the benefits of this tranny worth its price tag. Id imagine its more robust then the m30b35 tranny. Keep in mind that i would couple my 260/6 from my m30 swap with the s38 if I didnt end up purchasing the tranny. Input please.
Difference between getrag 280 and 260/6?

Difference between getrag 280 and 260/6?

I'm not a huge transmission guy, but from what I know is that the G280 can handle more power than the G265 (not sure about G260/6) but are expensive to rebuild and less plentiful than the G265. MyE28 has a few guys that swap the G280 out for a G265 including a write-up on it. -
I guess i could consider that option if it was necessary. http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?p=973324 I would like to not have to buy a new tranny though. From what i've read the 260/6 bolts right up to the s38.
G260 e34 have these ratio ....
1=3.83 2=2.20 3=1.40 4=1.00 5=0.81
the G280 is a bit little longer so ,, either another driveshaft .. or shorten the one under the car
G280 ratio ... 1=3.53 // 2=2.08 // 3=1.35 // 4=1.00 // 5=0.81
you can see that 1st and 2nd are just a margin longer,, on the G280 and with 600+ revs on the S38 vs M30B35 this would give a good accleration from 0standstill or 10mph rollin start

I feel that the jump for 2nd to 3rd is too spaced apart on my E28M5, now on my old E34 M5 with the 3.8L and the same G280, it was a better match.Comment

I had a g265 in my m30 e30.
It was a great transmission, plenty tough enough, only problem was that it leaked oil from in between the case sections.///Monstrosity. (OO≡≡[][]≡≡OO)
