    Installed gauges, couple of Qs...

Ok so I finally got my oil temp/pressure gauges installed and have a couple of questions about my readings. The PO installed the oil pressure sender on the back of the cylinder head next to the firewall; I don't know much about the M30 oiling system and am wondering if this is an o-k position for it. At idle I am reading about 2 bars of pressure, cruising around at about 2750 RPM I am at around 4 bars, give or take. I am just curious if this would be an accurate reading as the pressure sensor is so far from the oil pump...
Also, even after driving for 30+ mins my oil temps never seem to get above 70ish deg Celsius, it usually sits around 60ish C...which seems a bit cool to me. I am running the M30 oil cooler, but I didn't think it would drop the temp that much. What is normal op temp for oil, and is my temp being so low detrimental to anything?

Oil temp should be above the coolant temp.
And the oil pressure seems fine for the readings you said.

My oil temps barely even approach coolant temps...

where are you taking the oil and coolant temps from in relation to the rad/oil cooler?

Coolant temp is coming from stock M30 location, oil temp is from the sender in the oil pan...

that's why you don't ever see it rise, it will take far longer as the oil pan acts like a big heat sink.

I moved my oil temp from the oil pan to where the oil pressure switch used to be (threads right in) and it seems to work much better. but the subject of where "the most accurate" place to measure oil temp is hotly contested - really, there's no "most accurate" place because the oil temp will be different at different points of the engine. But in the pan I'd never get a reading, it seems to work much better where it is now.

pressure should be mostly, but not exactly, the same everywhere. 4 bars under load seems about right (60psi).

+1 the pan is generally considered a bad place to read oil temp. There's adapters that you can put into the oil switch that will give you a sender hole there

if he's got a pressure sender it probably has a built in switch. just hook that up to the oil pressure switch wire, throw away the leaky bitch that is the stock pressure switch, and thread the temp sensor right in. no adapters needed.

Thanks for all the input guys! I guess I will be trying to relocate the temp sensor to the oil filter housing. I had a TA with a temp sensor in the oil pan and had no problems getting a reading, I just figured since I had the big M30 oil cooler my temps were nice and low. I'll have to look at the pressure sender and see if there is an unused blade on it or something. How can I tell if it has a pressure switch on it?

if it has two posts, one will be for pressure reading and the other is the switch.

Thanks nando! I will hopefully be able to work on it tomorrow before work and get to post my results...

I ended up using a Oil housing cap that was threaded from Rogue engineering. I am running temp and pressure sensors off the cap but still retain the low pressure switch at the back of the head. I see temps as high as about 215 F in hot stop and go conditions with conventional oil.
