The fellow I got my 325e from has the old block laying outside his garage, It has sat for 2 or so years, open ie. no head, crank, bearings. the cam and pistons are still there. the engine looks terrible from sitting out. As far as he and I know, there are no cracks in the block. He dropped a valve while driving, that killed the engine. I guess what I want to know is...
Are the bearing seating surfaces going to be destroyed from rust?
I know a guy who can bore the block out for a great price (free) and since my block has a broken ear where the alt/ps pump bolts on, I have been searching for an alternative.
What else should I check out? the cyllander walls are rusty, but do not look hacked up the valve just sort of imbedded into the piston.
If this is not a viable option no big loss, I can get another block from the yard cheaply that is intact and sealed. but free is usually better whenever possible...
advice? use the crusty block or just get a used block from the yard?
