The Mercedes 300D Turbo (5cyl) engine has been one of the best engines for veggie conversions (out of the w123 models). It can still get on it with 110hp, it would fit size wise (probally) but the weight is pretty extreme (def take that into factor when choosing an engine.) There is also the 240d engine small 4cly and it would be great for a conversion and you really wouldn't have to worry about power.
