Oil pump... do you think this is *real* bad? [56k woes]

I mean i know its bad but how bad? I think the PO used crude oil... you know, black gold, texas T, that sorta thing.

Anyway, how perfect do these surfaces need to be to produce adequate oil
pressure? I wouldnt dare use this on any engine i required to be reliable and
well running, this is a ..... "i have to skimp where i can" kinda thing. Obviously
the lubrication system isnt a place to skimp... just give it to me straight ;)

man... ive gotten pretty good with this camera

looks bad, but not *real* bad. i'm sure that will move more than enough oil to run a decent pressure for reliable driving...but if that happened at the oil pump, i would LOVE to know what happened to the insides of your engine.

i would love to know what happened to this entire car. the head was rebuilt from crap but the bottom end didnt look extremely bad (cylinder walls, etc.)
the car was clipped diagonally through the cabin and appeared to be rolled after that. frame bent and out of allignment in every direction, there was so much bondo and RTV it was plain sick. every electrical component was wire-nut'ed, most every component junkyard marked... and thats to name just a few things. got it for $200 and it wasnt even worth that.

There should not be any of that scoring there. Thats wasted in my opinion.

As cheap as they are new do not chance it. EVERYTHING is riding on it.

Replace it with a new OEM pump.

OK, advice considered, yet ponder this; if a new oil pump is like $120 (i believe to be the cost of a new one, PLEASE show me if im wrong,) then thats 1/3 the cost of what i have in the engine... and the money spent was on valves and resurfacing shit-for-surfaces anyhow... is it *that* worth it?

it should pump to last the engine a season, at that point i cant imagine considering using this thing longer anyway because i have my *good* m20 to work with on the next time 'round. Though i cant have this thing die on my second 1/4 mile comp. run.

EVERYTHING IS riding on it, i totally agree, but could replacement somehow be avoided? hate to linger on such a deterministic topic (probably the wrong word)

edit: better yet, i have an idea that might make this controversial-worthy. back with pics in a while

buy a new oil pump and swap it into your other M20 when you change motors, if that's what you're going to do. no reason to put a motor in and end up having to tear it all apart again to replace it later.

I would not use that. If you are on a budget that tight. Find a used pump.
