m30b34 into e30 engine mount questions...

I have an m30b34 from an 86 e28 535i I am going to swap into my girlfriends e30. I am trying to figure out my engine mount options, and so far, the only source I can find for m30b34>e30 mounts is e30.de. While I'm not opposed to buying from them, I have seen posts where people have had issues with shipping, and trouble recouping their funds.

I'm trying to make sense of my options, and the differences between the b34 and b35 block and mounts by looking at various products and threads and feel like my head is going to explode, but I think I came up with a solution...

My engine ( still in the donor e28 ) looks like this:

    Left/Driver Side:

    Right/Passenger Side:

    which leaves these holes exposed:

The Left/Driver side looks like it uses the same boss's in the block as the Garagistic b35 mounts, but the passenger/right uses different boss's. However, as far as I can tell, from the pictures I took, I have both the e28 and e34 mounting points on my b34 block... Could I use the b35 bracket and just run a tap into the holes on the block to clean up the threads, or are the holes off? I know there were some b35 blocks that had both mounting provisions, but haven't heard of a b34 having both, yet it looks like that's what I have.

Am I taking crazy pills? Can someone point me to clear pictures of the garagistic b35 passenger side bracket bolted to the block?

Did you drag that engine out of a lake? Man, we are so spoiled down here in the south. Blocks don't really even rust here.

Qbang makes the B34 mounts that you need.

Haha. No lakes, just a daily driven rust belt car. This car is particularity rusty (to the point that I was able to remove the entire core support with a few whacks with a hammer and some yanking).

Does qbang still make them? I'll have to send him an email!

However, as you know from my transmission compatibility thread you helped with, I just can't leave well enough alone... If it is possible that there are some b34 blocks that can use b35 mounts, then I'm going to prove it. If those extra bolt holes don't line up, I'll prove that too.

Your gonna want qbang mounts for a b34 They are the mounts I used for my b34 swap. you are going to have to re tap those holes and buy bolts accordingly to the tap and thread count. they do make e28 mount adapters that allow the b35 to mount in the b34 position.

Yep, I just emailed him a couple of days a go and he does still make them. $225 shipped.

Not to deter you from enjoying the M30 life... but for all the trouble get a better starting point or get a tetanus shot first.

Haha. I worked as a mechanic in Buffalo NY. I assure you I am up on my tetanus shots.

This kind of rust on an engine block is not uncommon around here. The only way they don't rust is if they leak. The car is a rusty mess, but as far as the engine is concerned, the compression is good and the cam is clean, and that's what's important.

All in all, it's not too bad...
