There's a bracket that spans the transmission tunnel held on by six bolts.

Ah i see.

I had the guy cut off the downpipes, i'll just use that to tie into a stock m20 exhaust with some welding.

when you say 'center brace' do you mean a part of the chassis?

i'll obviously be able to see what you are saying when i get the exhaust up in there but i'm trying to formulate a plan.

Not a bolt on solution but some cutting of the pipes and notching the center brace (to clear the O2 sensor on the e34 cat). Then there's the piping after the cat.
