Help Identifying M30 engine + ECU combination

Hi everyone, I am reaching out to you guys all the way from Sri Lanka :)

Would greatly appreciate if someone could help clear up some slight confusion I have regarding a M30 engine I recently bought to swap into my 316i e30.

I do not have any VIN information on the donor for the M30, so this is what I have;





Also the valve cover has the words BMW stamped, not the roundel, and has 3.5 stamped on the intake manifold and block, so I believe this is a M30B35.

However, the ECU I have got with this is Bosch 0261 200 061, what I have gathered about that online is below;

Bosch 061, ML3.3
BMW 12 14 1 288 138, 12 14 1 706 192
Does not use catalytic system
E28 535i, M535i 1/85 - 8/86
E24 635CSi, 9/84 - 8/86
E23 735i 9/84 - 6/86

Given that the engine code says 34 6k B - [where K is for catalytic] I just would like to confirm if this ECU works with this engine, and how I can identify which year this engine was made, your support would be greatly appreciated!

Engine is most definitely a m30b35, however from what I can gather the ecu is from a euro m30b34

1984 - 1987 BMW 635CSI: Motronic ML3.3 part# 0 261 200 061 (Euro M30B34)

There is apparently a bmw bulletin on ecu codes which I found on mye28, but it doesn't mention the part number that you have.

My guess is that while it may work, a 179 would be preferable? Maybe someone else could chime in.

Thanks for the info! Yes as you mentioned some other documents also refer to this ECU to be off a M30B34.

I was wondering since the euro 635csi came with the M30B35, could it have briefly shared the same ECU with the previous M30B34 engine'd version?

In a Bosch document I found below, there is no reference to Motronic ML3.3 (061), however there is a ML3.2 used for the M30B35, in addition to the 179 M1.3

In this table - http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/mot...t_numbers.html I found no reference to ML3.2 at all, but ML 3.3 with the 061 ecu has been used in the below cars as per that table

635csi and e32 735i - had the m30b35 afaik/as per wiki
535i/is which seems to have had the b35 later in its life according to wiki atleast, and also the m535i
