    Oil cooler overhaul'n ?

I'd like to overhaul my oil cooler over the winter. It's seeping oil out of the lines and just looks sad. I will need the cooler off for several weeks so that I can have a hydraulic shop fab new lines.

So, can the filter screw directly into the block to replace the thermostat housing or do I need any additional parts to back-fit the filter to the block?

Several weeks to rebuild the lines? Any hydraulic hose repair shop should be able to replace the hose on both lines the same day. Drop them off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon has been my experience.

If you can't find a shop that can do the job in a day or at most two, buy a used pair of lines from a salvage yard and have those rebuilt.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I found the part to take the place of the thermostat housing. It's called a connector and the dealer has it for $8.

True, I could probably get it done in a day but I'd rather take the whole assembly off and rebuild at my leisure. That will also give me the chance to rebuild the thermostat seals. I don't think I'll be needing my oil cooler for at least 6 more mos!
