E28 M5s, E24 M6s, E34 M5s. Personally, I think it would be absolutely ridiculous to remove the motor from any of those cars, especially to put it into an E30... But that's me.

unless the frame was already damaged... looks longingly at the e28 M5 at work, trying to ignore the price of a rebuild...
It can, but I have not heard very many people complain about like the M20s. A Dinan chip raises the rev limit of the US spec B34 to 6700rpm, which is probably as high as you will ever need to go on an M30! To breathe efficiently enough to make those revs practical you will need a good cam and some nice headers.
that's the plan:
3.5 m-30
*IE headers
*dbilas itb's (already have them on my m-20 just need new manifold for the m-30)
*wolf standalone/speed density conv (no maf)
*schrick or catcams 290something deg cam
*P&P head
*GLH exhaust with cat bypass (bolt in and out cat)
sound good....?
would like to get as close to 300hp as possable w/o replacing the pistons to raise the compression

M30B34 out of E28 has 10:1 CR, at least here in Europe.
That sounds good but i doubt it'll make 300hp, more likely 260-270hp.
Anyways, take lot of pictures and tell us how it's going :-)
