    Rod

No I understood you perfectly I have had 4 335is’s one being a turbo all have been with the getrag 265 my new one is with the getrag 260
    I have run 3:73lsd, 3:91open, 3:46lsd, 3:25lsd 2:93lsd 2:78lsd
I have been around almost all gearboxes possible. Diff, tyranny

Now for running a 2+ gear you are going to need some more tq and hp bone stock e30m30 can do this but it would be just like every other car as for performance most people do the swap to run a little more than new cars can I am not saying go extreme but just enough to say you can.

Ok, so I think I'll stay away from the 2+ for now as I don't plan turbo in the immediate future.

Bumping this back up. I was wondering what you guys with 3.64/3.73's are turning at 70mph.

I have a 2.93 in now with my 260/5 (?). It is great on the highway- around 2200rpm at 70- but the gears are are a bit too long for my taste. I have a 3.64 I want to put in, but I still want it to be nice on the highway.

3.64 will be a bit high on the highway, even 3.46 was a little tall on the highway. I would strive for a 3.25 or a 3.46.

Joe, have you had the 3.25 in your car to compare to the 3.46? I'd love to have the low revs on the highway, but I don't want to give up the midgear punch that lower gears give you. These are the two ratios I am looking at when I do the swap.

Oh, and if it helps, 3.73's and a .81 OD equals 3500 rpm at 80-81 mph. 205/55 15 tires (24" tall).

                      when mines running...

i was getting 22 -25 on the highway with 3 people, 5 17" wheels, tires and a few other things in the car. This was also with not much more exhaust then just the downpipes and no O2 sensor. My guess is it will be better when all that is fixed.

i get between 15 and 20 around town i would say, but the car is to much fun to drive so its hard to do better then that!

oh also i have a 2.93 as said above

I got nearly 30mpg on my 07 trip to Bimmerfest, on 14s. When I switched to 16s, I literally started getting 14/20. I was known to have a "heavy" foot though.

                                265 with 195/55/14 and 3.73lsd = 155mph in 5th @ 7000rpm. I see no reason to go any faster in an E30.
