    Transmission and Diff thread

What transmission and diff are you using? What are your top speeds in each gear? Factory redline or chipped?

    Mine:
    Dinan chip (redline unsure?)
    Getrag 280, 3.46

    revlimiter is:
    1st - 40
    2nd - 67
    3rd - 105
    4th - ?
    5th - ?

    3.25 Rear end (z3 or z4)
    Ebay chip (6800 Limit)
    225/50R15s (slightly oversize)

    1st: ~40
    2nd: ~70
    3rd: ~110
And thats all i know so far :)

60MPH is at about 2200 in 5th... good to know :)

I pulled this post together a while ago before swapping in a 3.64 (thanks Jean) in place of my 4.1 lsd. Every conceivable combination of tires and diff ratio in a M42/Getrag 240 car with 6500rpm limit.

I know the 240 wouldn't have much of a chance behind the M30, but the gear ratios for 2nd to 5th gear are identical to the 260 so you might find it useful. The 240 has a slightly shorter 3.72 1st vs the 260s 3.57.

How would a 2.79 perform with an M30?

once its together mine will be
dinan e28 ecu, getrag 260/5 87 635csi, 3.73 lsd, on stock is weaves... Im betting top speed will be the same it'll just get there quicker. Unless the trans from the 635csi has sport ratios then i have no clue what im in for

The sport box is pretty short... Almost annoyingly short. My 6 has the sport 262 and a 3.07LSD and I'm fairly sure that 2000rpm in 5th gear is around 40mph, maybe 45 (no speedo, just guessing based off of other cars). I think I may end up selling my gearbox to run a 265, so if anyone wants to make me a solid and realistic offer on a 262 dogleg in good condition (Not even going to look twice at any offers below $600... lawl), send me a PM.

                          So that's good? ;)

How would you rate in terms of day to day driveability? (non turbo)

Day-to-Day good if you keep up on the matanence oil, water, tranny oil ect.
and the big item would be the gearing 3:46lsd-3:93lsd but it would be up to the driver due to the Mpg,tires,

Sorry I guess we misunderstood one another. I thought you had a 2.97 lsd, but sounds like you're running a 3+ diff. I have a line on a 2.97 lsd and was wondering how this would work out for day to day driving when mated to an M30 and Getrag 265
