    m30 turbo idea need help...

    Hello,

I want to turbo the m30 im going to swap into my e30... I read that using a m30b34 from a pre 88 like the e28s and slapping on the m30b35 head from a e34 it will lower cr and make it a stronger motor for turbo...but ill also need the oil pan and pump from the e34 to fit into the e30 chasis..right?

Also what would be my cr?...and for manifolds? do I make my own or can I buy one?

    Thanks

any info on the swap of heads and turboing the m30 would be great

You can get a Manifold made by Jon Volk, but look to spend over $1,200. There's a guy with a white 4-door who's got a turbo M30. PM him.

The reason people are using the b34 block with b35 head is because the c/r is slightly less on the b34 while the advantage of having larger valves on the b35. I'm not sure of the c/r after all is said and done, but more than safe enough to turbo.

Manifolds can be bought from 666 fabrication...you can make them if you're handy with a welder.

If you don't have the motor or any of the turbo equipment, nor any experience with either, I would build the motor drop it in, learn how to handle that, then piece together the turbo. An m30 e30 is a whole new ball game...just as an m30e30 turbo is different from an m30e30.

Or from a 745i, although they are dated. I think that that is what Frank is using.

You make a valid point...only power full car I have owned was a 2.3 Turbo Tbird from 87...

I think ill just slap in the 3.5 from the e34 and leave it till I feel I need to have more power then ill go the turbo route...Also ill slowly build the parts list and manifold..im pritty handy with a welder so its not an issue...thanks

I'm going to install my M30 head on my M106, which is the 745i engine. I am giving it a full rebuild though, since it has alot of miles.

              Good luck, dude.

No, Frank was using a TCD stage 1 kit but as far as I know he has sold it and is now NA. Unless I am wrong.

Megasquirt seems to work best for all turbo needs. :)
