if you are going to build the motor up..keep the block ditch the head on it and get one from a b35. It'll give it a slightly lower comp ratio but it'll have bigger valves, etc on it. the b34 3.5 is rated 182hp w cat while the euros were 208hp w/o a cat. I don't know if the ecus are different (probably), but thats a big difference between in hp. The b35 had 218hp i believe so only 10 more hp not worth it really. One a 3in single exhuast w no cat. (if you can get away w it in your state) and you'll be making plenty of hp or tq. As far as wiring goes use a harness from an 87-89 325i 5spd. it requires the least amount of splicing and rewiring.

If you put a B35 head on a US B34 block you go from 8:1 compression to about 7.2:1 which is hardly usable unless you plan on turbo charging. Despite the bigger valves and slightly hotter B35 cam, you will probably not gain power if you lose that much compression.

On the subject of power, the Euro B34 is rated at 218hp, whereas the B35 is rated at 208hp (sometimes you see 211hp but it should be 208, they were the same in the US as the rest of the world). The Euro B34 has 10:1 compression whereas the B35 has 9.5:1 if I remember correctly... The numbers above are mixed up.
