    02 Sensor wiring help.

I'm having troubles with my o2 sensor wiring, sorry about the picture:

From etm's I have been using says these wires are for the o2 sensor as it has 3 wires I bought a 3 wire o2 sensor.

The earth wire was not completed ( went in and out of a plug that was not connected to anything, I cut the plug off and soldered the wires together to complete the earth circuit.

Note: On the 02 sensors heater the wires are not polarity sensitive.

The oil light stays on and the car has alittle bit of a lumpy idle now too?

When you disconnect the earth wire the oil light goes out.

Could you guys help me figure out my o2 sensor wiring?

The plug to the far left is the one I cut off, the plug next to that is the o2 sensor plug I used.

Bump, c'mon guys tell me what colours your o2 sensor wires are? (harness side)

m20, m30 harness just to give me an idea.

How about you get a 25$ bosch single wire O2 and only run the sensor wire to the dme,or just use yours and eliminate the others. The other wires are for a heater cuircut to warm up the sensor to enable closed-loop sooner and i think run through a relay. I did this on my e28 because the bmw sensor 3 wire heated sensor was 150$. I don't have my o2 sensor hooked up yet on my 335 either, but this is what i am going to .

You just need to make sure it is grounded properly, as single wire grounds through the sensor body/exhaust. The corrosion in the exhaust parts can bitch up the signal...

FYI, all pre-cat single wire thimble sensors are the same. The dual wire thimble sensors simply add a ground reference wire. Heated sensors (3 and 4 wire) can be either 12 or 18 watts, and be body or wire grounded, and you don't want to interchange them. This info only goes for pre-cat thimble sensors.

Hmmm, soo with my 3 wire sensor (sensor, heater and earth) could I hook up my sensor wire and use the earth wire too? Or is the earth only for the heater? I guess it would be, because in the instructions that came with my 3 wire sensor it says that the heater circuit is not polarity sensitive.

Still would like to know which wires are for the heater and which are for the o2 sensor (for the ecu)

          BTW, thanks guys for replying.

Yes, the ETM is a great resource...

Yes, but running this engine without an o2 sensor will make it use more fuel and foul up the catallic converter.

                      Update:

Ok it seems that the GN/WS (Green with white tracer) is the o2's ecu signal wire.

Still do not understand how the heating circuit works though.
