    Need. More. Power.

We are all in this to quench our thirst for power, right?

The chipped M30b35 just wasn't enough for us, so we are yanking it out... in favor of an M106.
And so, this is the buildup thread:

The car in question, our 87 BMW 335is:

And the motor that we are removing:

    --------------------------------------------------------
Motor on the stand, just completed a stock rebuild. Introducing the M106.
Low compression pistons, forged internals, knock sensors.

What kind of whp did the 3.5 have? Fuel mileage?

Can cams be purchased for the M30?

Depending on the chip the B35 can make 225-230bhp. You can definitely cam the M30s, but apparently the B35s fuel injection doesn't take too kindly to wild cams.

The M30b35 is already fairly built for an M30... The earlier motors you can really wake up with a cam though. My mileage (with a 3.46 diff) was upper 20s when I had my 14's, but went down to low 20s when I went to 16s. Around town the fuel economy is... not very economical. :)

Definitely will. The motor is nearly ready to go together. We may put in some piston squirters while it is this far apart. Wish we had done it before the hot-tank. :(

For now, we are just going to use the K27 turbo, as it is in excellent shape, and of fairly decent size. The initial plan is to conservatively tune it around 10psi. Factory specs for this motor (at 6psi, and factory tune) is somewhere in the neighborhood of 250/275.
At 10 psi, and a conservative professional tune, I would like to see a very safe 375-400.
I'm not convinced that the chassis will be able to handle much more than that, and I want a linear power curve.

I will definitely be bringing it to Bimmerfest. Hopefully it will be looking a little better than it did last year! It will certainly be a little quicker. :)

Yes, not sure about the 102s yet, though.

The motor is retaining all original parts. The odometer on the donor car has 340k, but this engine clearly does not. Unfortunately, that is all I know about the history on the block. Thankfully the engine did not need to be bored, so I was able to re-use the stock Low Compression pistons.
