Yeah saw that built, I am not sure if all that work to make the v12 is worth it imho. It's deff. a "Wow/cool factor" but so would the m60/m62 swap be and they are easier to find with manuals....

Most of the m70's that I have seen come into the shop were I work had some sort of major problem and was expensive as hell to fix not to mention you have no room to work in.

I do agree with you euroshark on the price on rebuilding a s38 but a m70 costs probaly around the same amount. What I am saying is the s38 is a better motor in general for a e30.

Many good points brought up about the S38 and the M70. It depends on what sort of driving will be done. Will the car be at the track frequently? Then you might enjoy the peakiness of the S38, as long as you can afford to keep it running. It's not a motor that particularly enjoys stoplight-to-stoplight daily driving like an M20 or M30 would/could. Will the car be mostly street driven (highways, etc.)? Then you will definitely enjoy the smooth torquey M70. Keep it properly maintained like any other motor, and it will reward you for (as previously mentioned) up to 300k.

It boils down to cost though, if the OP can't afford to ship out a decent fender that is bondo'd all to hell, he sure as shit can't afford any type of swap.

My opinion: The M70 swap may have its novelty for being a V12 powering a teeny little E30, and an S38 in an E30 still tickles my nuts, but for the money a M5x/S5x swap is hard to match.

I think all you said sums it up pretty good but i think this last part is the most important, leaving out one important detail...

M30b34 turbo is what would be hard to match

Some guy on bimmer forums is making 444hp and 500+tq on 7psi.
                                On a cheesy piggyback.
                                I think that's worth it. Imagine 30psi.
