    M10 swap to m42 - Will it work ?

That is the million dollar question...

    I have an 85 318 (broken cam) with an M10 engine, and a wrecked 95 E36 318ti with an M42 ?

    Is the E36 M42 the same as the E30 M42 ?

    Can I swap the M42 to the 85 318 ?

Will the M42 bolt up to the E30 transmission?

May seem like a dumb question to some but I wanted to be sure before I tear all of it apart...

Thanks for any help you can offer...

You can, but you will still need all the LM e30 w/ m42 harness and sensors, ECU, and intake manifold + accessories. The longblock is easier swapped on a 318iS than an early model 318i (m10)

I have both cars fully intact.. Wiring sensors and the whole bit.

So I need the M42 with all sensors and wiring with ecu. And it will bolt to the E30 5 speed without any issues ?

You did not understand me, you will need all the stuff off of an already m42 equipped e30. The e36 stuff will not work.

Sorry, I guess I didn't.. You mean I have to find an E30 M42 harness and ecu to be able to do the swap and it work ?

          That changes things quite a bit.. (headslap) I could've done a V8 !!...:)

Is there absolutely no way to do it with the E36 setup?

              That sucks...................................
