just replaced my m42. issues! can anybody lend me some advice?

    If you're missing the chain tensioner and it was running like that and dying, your valves are toasted. You're past the point of needing a tensioner.

    If it was backfiring that much and stuttering, I'm guessing you'll need to pull your head and check the valves.

    well. i figured it out. the missing part is: hydraulic timing chain tensioner. how bad is that!?!?

    Either the timing of the cams is off or your spark plug wires are out of order.

  • just replaced my m42. issues! can anybody lend me some advice?

    So i just replaced my m42, with another m42. got everything bolted in and what not, but there are some wierd things that happen when i turn the key.

    it kind of sounds...and feels like the spark plug wires have been mixed up, but there might be a bigger issue.

    she fires and starts up, but backfires and fires herself out of rotation quite suddenly and dies. she runs really rough for about a second and then dies.

    any ideas?
