yes if yoru p/s is already bad, delete it, why run the belt if it is bad. use search to see different easy ways to delete
I run without,
replaced h20 ? I would have done the thermostat ast the same time, just one less worry later, as they can stick open, or closed ( not so good)
side note, cracked heads can be a trick, mine cracked into an exsaust prot , so the water ws going out the exsaust pipe and not mixing with the oil

Is your coolant reservoir staying at the correct level? If not then...
Sometimes the o ring seal on the water pump will not make a good seal, even if it's brand new. If this is the case then anti-freeze\water will seep out onto the belt\pulley and cause the belt to slip and squeal, ask me how I know. Usually the squeal will be more pronounced on start up and then go away or subside after the liquid has been spun off. Look for the leak with a light underneath where the water pump shaft and the pulley meet. If it's leaking there you'll need to pull the pump and clean the area free of the glycol found in antifreeze so the RTV sealant that you're going to use will stick.
Good luck...

Just little update..the head was not cracked,I was very relieved to find this. The belt situation was also fixed, I bought new belts and replaced them. Seems the PO lied about them being new. Easy Fix so I'm not too mad. I'm currently in the process of replacing The t-stat, should've done it before but I didn't think of it since I was so hurried.
