    M42 or M44 build up?

I'm not really worried about the extra stroke of the M44, more about head design. Either engine would retain the stock crank, but get the max overbore and high comp pistons.

Does the M44 have a better head? I've noticed on Metric Mechanics' site, he has the 2.1L M44 making 10hp more then the 2.1L M42. So I'm assuming the base head is the difference.

Also anyone have any experience with VAC M42 heads? Or any other companies besides MM and VAC that do headwork?

If you machine the bottom end, make sure you have the block machined for a 360 bearing.
I would contact "peerless" on that since he built an M42 last year.

Hmmm, is it still complete? I'd prefer to start with a complete engine.

6mm valve stems vs 7mm valve stems, from what I understand.

^^That is true, but all e36 M42s had that too I think. E30 M42s had the thicker valve shafts and double-wound springs.
