Idle issue after top end rebuild

    Hey guys,

So I recently rebuilt the top end on my 91 318is. New head gasket, all intake and exhaust gaskets, water pump, timing chain, m44 timing tensioner, timing chain guides, valve cover gaskets, all front timing cover gaskets, thermostat, throttle body heater plate delete and all new vacuum hoses. I still have a weird idle issue.

So from stone cold, I start the car and give a little throttle. If I let off of the accelerator, it will bog and die.

    So,

I give here a little more throttle to keep it alive. And it does unless I let off the throttle.

    So,

I drive the car and if I come to a stop and let off the throttle it dies again.

    So,

It warms up a bit and the bog seems to become more stable. It won't die at all. Its strong as nails.

    Where should I start?

what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.

I have the same exact problem! I doubt it is the icv. I have checked for vac leaks, swapped icv's and maf's and still the same issue. My car is not as bad as yours it does not die but the idle is really rough.

Icv or a vacuum leak somewhere.

Any solution to your problem? I'm having a similar issue.

The symptoms are a good match for an ICV problem or intake leaks. The only sure way to find intake leaks is to have a smoke test run.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ran a smoke test today, no leaks. ICV has been cleaned and appears to be working. Any other thoughts?
