    Have some questions fellas.....

    1. How do I know which oil filter I need? The PO said it was an E36 M42, last guy that worked on the car for me (total hack) said it was out of an E30.

RealOEM lists two different filters, that are the same for either cr depending on metal or plastic oil filter cap? Did I read the diagram correct? My car has the plastic oil filter housing cap.

    2. Cheapest place to get lightweight aluminum flywheel? Horsepower freaks has a $400 one, but it's for the E36 M42 and requires an E36 M3 clutch, which doesn't work for us as far as I know.

Please do not tell me about the M20 flywheel, I know, and don't want a bunch of mismatched parts. I want to be able to just use stock M42/G240 clutch setup.

Also, are there any poly engine mounts? Or is this engine just to buzzy with them?

If you oil filler cap is plastic, they you need to get the filter for that on and you most probably have an e36.

I had the E28 535i mounts for about one year and just grew tired of the increased vibrations. The stock mounts really smooth things out, I know they're $100 a pop but I bit the bullet after I got fed up with the E28 mounts.

After looking around some more, it seems like Metric Mechanic has a pretty good deal.

$750 for an 11lb M20 flywheel with M42 ring gear, and all the other associated goodies need to put an M20 flywheel on an M42.

Exchanged a few emails with Todd at DynoTech.

He has a great price on a COMPLETE M20 flywheel/clutch/323 throwout bearing package for us M42 guys.

I'm going to go ahead and get the setup from him as opposed to Metric Mechanic.

If you're going to do an M20 flywheel, just find a 323 singlemass. They're about 13lbs, and can be found for about $125. A later m20 starter will bolt right up to the g240 also.

This is the system i'm running if you have any questions.

Hey buddy, I ripped the top of the filter box and threw it in the glove box, unless someone threw it away, it might still be in there. I had the same problem when I changed the oil for the first time. I ordered it for an E30 M42, obviously the wrong one, so I ordered the second one for an E36 M42 and worked fine.

                          Hope that helps

                          Sold.......again.

I have the urethane mounts and they are coming off in a few weeks. I can't stand them. I went around chasing vibrations for months trying to figure out why I couldn't get the pos to stop shaking before I realized it was my mounts.

Awesom, thanks for the answers guys.

KenC, I'll shoot you a PM about the 323 setup soon.

Checked th bank account and all my recent purchases will put the clutch/flywheel on hold for another month or so.
