    m20 to m42.............yes i said it!

So I have a 325i with a m20 in it. I want to just throw a m42 in its place and turbo it.

It seems like the m42 is more efficient and such.

Its a 5-speed by the way, What would be involved in this swap.

get yourself an m42, drive shaft and shift linkage maybe trans... get the ecu and then bolt it all in, re-pin the c101

starter is dependent on what flywheel clutch you use.

        Two M42s would be better.

I know the transmissions are different but I'm not sure if they bolt up to one another engines.

Unless you can get an absolutely smoking deal on the parts needed - and - you current car has lots of nice mods done to it already, I would keep your eyes peeled for a '91 318i/is....buy it then unload your current car to offset/break even/profit your expenses.

It will bolt right in as long as you're using the m42 tranny, linkage and driveshaft. If you use the M20 stuff, the transmission mounting would be the same as doing a M50 swap. The reason for this is, the M42 sits on the same angle as the M50. The m20 tranny sits on less of an angle, so you would be tilting the transmission more and would need a 24v swap cross-member.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's correct. I don't know what driveshaft you would use if you did use the m20 tranny as it would need to be longer.
