    Air Intake

Who here is actually running a performance air intake?
What changes have you noticed in your 318i/s?
Also, what kind are you running?

    Thanks!

      performance air intake, LOL

Im gonna say what has been said a million times:
Your not gonna get anymore performance than the stock box no matter what you do. Your best bet is a K&N panel filter in you airbox

a better response and louder..don't expect any numbers. i say stick with the stock and drop in a KN or AFE panel.

Hah, no guys, wasn't looking for numbers, more for a difference in sound & *maybe* response. So at that, any thing special?

Sounds all fancy like..thats about it. w/o a heat shield you'll lose some.

Theres gotta be like 50 or so CAI threads on r3v alone.. search the m20 forum for some good insight into them.

Whatever you're spending on a "kit" would be better spent on something else.
Like beers, or Bourbon an sweet Vermouth.
or maintenance...have you dropped your oil pan lately?

Drill holes in stock box. Free and it'll sound better.

Be careful with the K&N's. The PO on my car was running one and did a really shoddy job when he went to "re-oil" the air filter, aka just dump a crap ton of oil on the element. This caused the AFM (barn door) to become damaged and I had to replace it.

guess he didn't follow direction. after oiling the filter i put a towel under it and let the extra oil drain out.

I ran a giant cone filter with a good heatshield for awhile. Didn't notice a performance gain, but it sounded good and dropped my intake temps by a little more than 10 degrees on average. I'm running megasquirt, though, so I didn't have use for the AFM.

I'm running a fairly sized itg foam filter. W/ no heat shield, I am losing power. But hopefully when I build the full box for it, I will get back to at least stock performance.

My car sounds boss though lol. ;)

                          10 degrees less than stock?
