e30 m42 oil pressure control valve

do e30s have them or are they only on e36 m42 engines

m42 has a relief valve. its located in the timing case housing directly below where the oil filter housing bolts up.

They updated it from the original design, too.

only reason why i was asking was because in m42club forums they were saying only the e36 m42s had them. what im trying to figure out is if the E30 m42 engines have them

Nope. Definitely in the 91s also. Number 5 in this picture.

Parts 5-8 are the updated assembly. They had issues with the old ones sticking open.

I replaced it when I rebuilt my M42.

ok so mine does have on so the updated one is made of nylon as oppossed to the other steel one. Ken when you replaced it did you have to remove the lower/upper pan to access it or is it possible to access it from the oil filter housing as desktopdave was suggesting on m42club?

You have to remove the upper pan.
