    place help

having a few issues just purchased the car a few weeks ago (Alpine 91 318is) run was running fine but didn't pass inspection ( everything was fine exempt high hydrocarbons on normal idle was over 42 ppm) on high idle it passed (with work haven't had time to make it to DMV for reinspection getting home late) I have since did sea foam changed sparked plugs cleaned icv changed gas filter oil change air filter differential and have new o2 sensor to put in but can't get old one out. I know the exhausted is stick stock and where cat connects to downpie right before o2 sensor the joint in rusted and might have bad seal/gasket. also oil pan has leak hope its just lower but haven't had chance to drop it and change gasket. last few days when reaching stop rpms started to drop down to 600 for small secound and go back to normal and stay fine. now when ideling it keeps going back and forth from normal idle +/-900 to 600. it I gas it up to about 2000 it idles fine for few secounds then starts back up. and check engine is flashing for a while goes of and then stays on then goes off.

Hmm few issues there. First drop you oil pan and see if any bolts around the oil pick up are loose, if so use some red locktite on then they are prone to coming loose.

You smog problem maybe more then your o2 sensor, I would also be replacing IAC, CTS it is hard to say what could be causing it. There is good write up about tuning for emissions on the MegaManual site although you are not tuning it gives you some incite into what could change the smog variables. Here is a link.

I don't know if that worked or not but under tuning for Megasquirt-ll you will find a section on emissions.

    Good luck

hmm idle control valve not working as it should looks like cleaning didnt do the trick also you probably have some vacuam leaks take care of the mess under the intake see m42club for extensive details on taking care of this

I changed a few hoses (still more to change including lower icv one) and changed o2 sensor which seemed stop fix idle but now after 35 minute vomited home from work cruising (80-85mph) on highway temp needed passes middle by about quarter inch. never did it before repairs.

Bleed cooling system for one. I'd get that temp issue worked out ASAP.

How are you oil pan bolts? The upper of course. Namely the front bolts? I'd check em out...

You said you did some hose replacement, can you explain what you did.
