    High Idle

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me find the reason why my 91 318is has such a high idle. the idle of the car when cold is around 700-800. However as the car warms up the idle increases to around 1200-1300. It is very steady and not bouncing everywhere. I've noticed that the car will have a dip in the idle once in awhile. From 1200-1300 to maybe 800-900 for a split second. The MPG gauge also increases from 0 to 5.

I have two ICV and used both of em with the same high idle problem. I have also did the vaccum hose delete. I'm not sure what is causing this problem and it is very annoying because I think its affecting my gas mileage. I get crappy gas mileage. I also can't even get it on the smog machine because the idle is so high. I was trying to look for the cold start valve but I dont think the m42 have one. I've also did the stomp test and it throws out a 1444 code, which I believe is stating the car doesn't have any problems. Looking forward to hear from anyone

Could it be the Coolant temperature sensor?

Took a real good look at the car and found out someone tampered with looks like and idle screw. It is around the throttle cable place. I loosen the screw and loosen the stud until the idle dropped. The cars idle is perfect now. Thanks for your help bmwm42! Hopefully it passes the damn smog here in California!
