    Car wont idle!

    91 318is stock 180k
Ok so the car stalled while i was driving. At first the car would not idle properly, while at a stop sign or red light the car would either rev down at 500 rpm or rev up to 1300 and back down to 1000, and up and down repeatedly and then back to 500 and finally it would become normal and go up to 700-800. the car drives fine as a matter of fact i can drive it if i need to but i need to keep the revs above 800 or so because IT DOES NOT IDLE!

    as far as codes go
I needed to jump the car because i hadnt turn it on for 3 weeks and when i did the stomp test i got a 1444 after a couple of trying to turn over the car and start it, i did the stomp test again and got a 1215 code

    heres the video
Notice when i step on the gas it sounds normal, but as soon as i let go of the gas pedal it stops. it didnt do this before, a couple of days ago it would turn on and idle but it would just basically idle from 700-1200 back and forth, and if i tried driving it it would die. now it just doesnt idle at all, but i could drive it!

*the only time its running its because i have my foot on the throttle, but as soon as i let go..... car dies!

1215 is air mass sensor aka AFM... :(

thats what i thought too, but i tried another AFM but they could both be messed up. im thinking it gave me that code on error, because i restarted the computer by unplugging the battery and then i got a 1444 code at first and then after trying to started i got the 1215 code. im just thinking the car hasnt run enough to know that is at fault. but i really dont know about it i could be wrong. would a AFM cause what you see on the video, not allowing it to idle at all. BTW isnt the sensor different from the actual afm?

thats what i was just checking on. the sensor is a part of the afm. someone chime in on this.

        known issues already addressed

        *no vacuum leaks
        * ICV seems to be functioning normally after cleaning
        * No false air issues either
        * fuel is obviously not an issue, the car starts and continues to run with the throttle held open

possible crank position sensor issues? it would have thrown a code tho...
coolant temp sensor can cause shitty idle and start problems as well, again a code would have shown up

OK update on this!!!! i replaced the cracked gasket in the intake manifold and the vacuum leak problem was GONE... however car still wouldnt idle. so then my budy and i decided to change the throttle positon screw thingy and made the car idle at about 1000. runs and drives great... but i still need to find a way to fix the problem.

again if anyone had same problem and fixed it let me know

next up i think i might change o2 sensor

I'm down at the Vintage and have a similar problem. I'm at wits end. I replaced the main and fuel pump relays and the air idle valve. My car has a 3 year old airflow meter. Car is in excellent condition. I'm about to throw a cam and a crank sensor at it. A fuel pump too just for good measure.
