    What keeps you from swapping?

I was just thinking to myself why people do swap and why some choose not too.

For me it is because I love the idea of doing something different than everyone else. Even if it takes more money than it would have to swap in an s52. I love my m42 and probably will until I die.

M20 parts are cheap, son! Well, from my personal experience they seem to be. Plus I have an extra M20 that's ready for boost. :D

Even though this is a 4cyl thread

-I have yet to find an M50 swap that is faster than my M20

-I enjoy being able to get replacement parts easily and not have to try to remember what car I got certain hoses, sensors, and gaskets from.

-I don't care what other people think about my car and do not want to be one of those people who does a swap partially just to have a "cool car"

-And as stated above, there is not much love for the M20 which means I can get replacement heads, blocks and other parts for crazy cheap.

I don't know, honestly. I've spent enough that I could be S52 by now, but something about an extra 100 pounds doesn't make me happy. I really like the M42 -- I know its history, it gets awesome mileage, and it's been maintained.

I also love the sound of a supercharger, so... Yeah. I like the idea of M42+boost more than S52.

Because I don't know where to find an s38 and don't know how I'd pay for it if I did.

You should never let this stop you.

When I bought my car I had no mechanical experience of any kind - I am a computer guy, I had never even done an oil change. A month later my friend helped me do timing belt / water pump. Three months later after doing reading online I did my front and rear shocks/springs, control arm bushings, trailing arm, and sub frame bushings almost entirely by myself. Four months later after a LOT of reading online I started my motor swap and completed it, Steve came over and gave me some wiring tips, everything else I did by myself.

Point is, you can do whatever you set your mind to.. It's just a bunch of bolts, as you start taking everything apart you will see how it goes back together. This is a pretty easy swap to do.

Why no, "m42 owns all" option?

                          M42: Because 110 feels like 140 :finger:

whats done to the m20? if its stockish no way. m50 developes torque earlier and more horspower up top.
