    skid plate m42

    i wanna make a skid plate for my e30 if anyone has any measurements and pics it would help alot

        Make your own from scratch. I had a friend grab hardened diamond plate and bent a 45 degree angle in it. Welded 2 nuts to the subframe and a hinge on the front to the radiator support. Shits solid and no worries. If I have to work on the lower engine I just remove the two rear bolts and it swings down.

          I'm keeping an eye on this, I just cracked my third oil pan in less than a year two days ago. :(
          1991 318is - custom dents, loud steering, peeling clear coat, cracked seats. <3 <3

              Diamond plate is weak. Use steel.

              here are my drawings.



              I had this bent and I drilled the appropriate holes and it works great!

              My car easily survived this kind of beating on H&R Race.

                          My friend destroyed his. Saved his pan becuase had his motor spaced up aswelll. But still.

                          If I were to custom make a plate I would make it out of thicker material and add a support across the front just like the peerless plate (which is fucking awesome BTW)

                            i had 1 on my 24v, it pushed up to pan broke 2 fins, started a hairline crack, had to buy some JB weld to fix it. not happy

                            but not interested in bashing eric, looking into making my own or improving his

                              They make diamond plate out of steel as well as aluminum.

                              I wouldn't make it out of diamond plate though as then you have all those diamonds to catch on things. The point of a skid plate is so the car easily slides over obstacles, not digs into them.

                              1/4" aluminum or bust IMO.
